NEW MARKET — The New Market council will take down a sign designed to act as a tourist information center in front of Town Hall and erect a new one.
Council members, in a monthly meeting Wednesday evening, voted unanimously to return the message board to its former proprietors, the Antique Dealer”s Association of Maryland Inc.
Some on the council asked if the Antique Dealer”s Association would donate the sign to the town. But that proposal was rejected by Antique Dealers member Rick Fleshman, who attended the meeting.
Fleshman asked the council why the arrangement was not satisfactory, as the purpose of the sign was to promote the town and its high concentration of antique businesses.
Council member Mark Timberlake said control of the message board should be returned to the hands of the people in the town, instead of a special interest group.

New Delhi, March 24 (IANS) The Delhi High Court Monday issued notices to the central government and Indian Oil Corp (IOC) over their failure to take action against black marketing of cooking gas cylinders.
A division bench of Justices T.S. Thakur and Siddharth Mridul asked for a status report by July 19.
Acting on a public interest petition, the court also asked IOC to ensure that the genuine consumers get adequate supply of cooking gas.
Raj Kumar Kaushik, president of the Society for Voice of Human Rights and Justice who filed the petition, contended that distributors of LPG gas were not supplying cylinders to genuine consumers but these were freely available in the black market.
The distributors have failed to take action against the black marketers despite repeated complaints from the public, he claimed.
